Project Summary
In 2016, massive flooding engulfed the greater Baton Rouge area, rendering thousands of homes uninhabitable due to rising waters and resulting damage. Thousands of homeowners and residents were displaced, creating a tremendous need for short-term sheltering solutions.
In response, USACE and FEMA commissioned the planning and construction of MHU group sites to serve as emergency temporary housing for residents in the affected areas. Multiple sites were developed, with thousands of FEMA and private industry MHUs delivered to the region to meet the demand.
USACE/FEMA engaged SLS to construct the Victoria site, located in East
Baton Rouge. Working with several local partners and a local labor force, SLS mobilized quickly and completed work in a highly-compressed time frame, with USACE providing construction management services.
